INDEX consists of two new series entitled Cabinets and Grey Card Gray. Cabinets moves through the dusty display cases and sarcophagi of Cairo's Old Museum — marking the first appearance of the human figure in Vanoverberghe's work — while Grey Card Gray draws on landscapes and architectural traces from Jordan and Egypt, Soviet-era monuments in Bulgaria, and natural terrain in South Africa.
Part artist book and part first monograph, INDEX brings together these two new series, installation views from recent exhibitions, and a full index of works published since 2017. Texts by Ory Dessau, Elisabeth van Caelenberge, and Theresa Becker offer critical context.
Sybren Vanoverberghe works across photography and display methods, treating landscape as a site where geology, politics, and memory intersect. His practice centers on photography's material form — experimental printing, unconventional supports, and framing that blurs the line between photograph, object, and installation.
The book is a 458-page softcover, available in four different cover options.
The publication of this book coincides with the exhibition Promised Colours, on view from 6 March to 23 May 2027, organised by Be-Part, Platform for Contemporary Art. The book has been published with the support of Be-Part, Keteleer Gallery and the Flemish Community.
